Why I took the bet that is Photon

Photon Health is taking off. In the past year alone, we have doubled in size as a team and 10x'ed in order volume.

As the Chief of Staff of Photon, I've witnessed the highs, lows, and everything in between. We're a rapidly growing startup in the early stages of building something game-changing. Our CEO often jokes, "This is all made up." We've made some mistakes, and we'll undoubtedly make more, but it's a bet we're willing to take. Across all of our teams, we are highly focused on building a product we see as necessary to advancing healthcare, and we know we'll need to overcome more uncertainty to get there.

• Our work is meaningful and challenges the status quo. We’re building the first prescription marketplace that will let patients know if their medication is in stock, what it will cost, and when it will be ready before they choose where to send it.
• Our goal is perfection, but we’re also realistic. Long term, Photon will replace some very outdated and clunky ways of doing things, including infrastructure and processes. It's a tall order, but we know we need to start somewhere, so we’re building technology that allows us to iterate as we go.
• We don’t settle. The work we’re doing is a grind, but it’s rewarding. We’re disrupting an industry that was purposely built to be complex, and we aim to create simplicity for patients by breaking down complex problems. We’re obsessed with finding solutions for the many problems that impact prescribers, pharmacies, and patients today.

• We’re naturally curious and highly ambitious. We ask questions and vet our bets. It’s how we’ve gotten this far already. We're a team of 20, and each of our perspectives matters.
• We’re picky. We are thoughtful and selective about who we bring onto our team. We are as much about building an exceptional team as we are about building an exceptional product.
• We’re human. We're connected to one another not just through our work but through who we are as people. As much as we love automation, we get that you can't replace the human in everything.

• Off-sites & on-sites: Our team gets together twice a year to hang out in person, realign on strategy, and have some fun together. It’s a time to connect as humans and form friendships.
• Lunch at the office: Our schedules are busy, so we make time to have lunch together at least once a week! We also cover lunch at the office whenever you’re in.
